Boston Now

Boston Now is the catalog of the inaugural 1969 exhibition at Boston's New City Hall. Twenty-nine Boston area artists were selected to represent the scope and vitality of the city's contemporary art scene, featuring works in such varied media as plexiglass, lava stone, and birefringent materials.

The works in this exhibition, selected by a knowledgeable and well informed committee, comprise only a partial statement of this expansion. The seventy artists considered by the Art Selection Committee were either known to them or recommended by fellow artists, Boston galleries, art schools, and the exhibition's coordinators. Only twenty-nine artists could be represented due to limitations of gallery space, lighting and other restrictions. Nevertheless, the artists entered with enthusiasm and interest, asking only that this be a beginning from which fresh encouragement and involvement might follow.
