British Edge The British Edge is an exhibition of sculpture, photography, installations, film, video and music selected by a group of ICA curators. Although no single set of criteria governs these choices, a complex of ideas will, ideally, be seen to spread and ricochet across the different art forms and catalog essays that comprise this presentation. Most resolutely, The British Edge is not meant to showcase simply that area of practicerecent sculpturethat has for British art in the international art world. Rather, British sculptors, who of course do have a place in this exhibition, are seen in a frame of reference that links them with other forms of expression. For this exhibition, the choice was made not to link art forms by medium or style and expressive cultural forms. These strategies exist for the sake of a conception of art that emphasizes the so-called "high" art forms, (painting and sculpture) and that often excludes a social context. What emerged as the curatorial goal for this exhibition was the desire to assemble a gallery presentation and set of programs that represented a contexta view (through American curators' eyes) of London.
